On the way, her child, grandchild and her sister were killed and Helen herself nearly died of illness and hunger. Helen is now 44 years old. She has five children and also cares for her grandson, whose father passed away. Helen works in the stone quarry, despite her illness, where a day's work earns her less than a dollar. Although she also makes paper beads to supplement this income, she can only afford to eat once daily.
